Heavy Haulage & Project Cargo

We move what
others can't.

Oversized, overweight, and complex project logistics across South Africa and all SADC countries. Mining equipment, transformers, machinery, containers — permit to escort, fully managed.

Why we exist

An abnormal load is not a bigger truck.

It is a legal exercise, an engineering exercise, and a coordination exercise rolled into one. A transformer heavier than three loaded artics, a wind blade longer than a cricket pitch, a 100-ton crusher that must arrive before a shutdown window closes — none of these move on a standard driver's schedule.

For more than two decades, our abnormal-loads division has handled exactly these movements. We are not a broker listing your cargo out to the cheapest bidder. We are a specialist operator that takes ownership of the whole journey — route, permit, escort, equipment, and delivery — so your project stays on programme and your risk stays with people who understand it.

Heavy haulage of mining equipment in South Africa
01

Heavy haulage & mining equipment

Mines can't wait for machinery. We move it.

From excavators and dump trucks to dozers, crushers and drill rigs, we move heavy yellow equipment between mine sites, workshops and ports across the Northern Cape, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and beyond. Every move is planned around axle-load compliance, weighbridge integrity and RTMS standards — because a mining client can't afford a compliance failure at a roadblock 400km from the site.

We run the right configuration for the machine: lowbeds, stepdecks with ramps, and rollback trucks that load and offload fast, keeping downtime to a minimum.

02

Machine moving & rigging

Relocating a factory is a precise, sequenced operation — not a removal.

We plan and execute factory relocations, production-line moves and heavy machinery installation using Red Seal riggers, jack-and-slide techniques, and 100-ton mobile crane access. Lashing, strapping and load-securing are done to spec, because a millimetre of shift on a CNC machine is a six-figure problem.

Whether it's a single press or an entire plant, we sequence the move around your production calendar so capacity comes back online with minimal interruption.

Wind turbine and energy project cargo transport
03

Energy & project cargo

Renewable and industrial projects run on impossible deadlines and unforgiving components.

Wind turbine blades, towers and nacelles; electrical transformers and industrial generators; fuel and gas tanks, tanktainers and pipeline — these are the loads that define a project's critical path. We move them with route surveys, multi-axle configurations, jack-and-slide loading and full escort coordination.

For cross-border energy and mining projects, we manage the full corridor — permits, customs and escorts — so a component leaving a port in Maputo arrives at a site in Zambia on the date it was promised.

04

Container & modular transport

From a standard 6m box to a fully kitted parkhome or E-house.

We move full and empty containers by sidelifter and flatbed, and we deliver prefabricated container homes, parkhomes, site offices and modular buildings to remote locations. Container stuffing and destuffing is offered where project teams need a single accountable party.

For modular and accommodation projects, we coordinate site access, positioning and offloading — because the last 100 metres of a parkhome delivery is where most damage and delay occurs.

Permits, escorts & the control layer

The movement is only as strong as the coordination behind it.

Abnormal loads don't fail in one place — they fail at the handovers. Between route survey and permit. Port exit and laydown. Transporter and traffic department. Storage and final site. We run all of it from one movement plan, so nothing falls between the cracks.

How we deliver

A disciplined method for cargo that cannot be improvised.

01

Route feasibility & clearance

Before anything moves, the route is understood. We survey bridge heights, overhead risks, turning constraints and road conditions, and we flag every risk before execution starts — not at the roadblock.

02

Permit acquisition

We handle the full application — SANRAL, Eskom and provincial authorities — including axle-load calculations, route approvals and cross-border permits, so your load is legal before it leaves.

03

Escort & pilot coordination

Pilot vehicles, traffic management and communication systems keep authorities, road users and your transport team aligned from departure to arrival.

04

Sequencing & movement planning

Complex projects need precise order. We plan every movement, coordinate multiple loads, and align with site readiness so the right component arrives at the right time.

05

Port & final-site delivery

From vessel discharge to trailer, security, staging and the final kilometre — we coordinate site access, crane offloading and handover so component condition is protected to the last metre.

FAQ

Common questions

What is an abnormal load in South Africa?

An abnormal load is any vehicle or load that exceeds the standard legal dimensions or weight limits prescribed by the National Road Traffic Act. This includes oversized, overweight, or indivisible loads requiring special permits on public roads.

How do I get an abnormal load permit?

One Purpose Logistics handles the entire permit process. We liaise with provincial road authorities, Eskom, SANRAL and cross-border authorities, conduct route surveys, and arrange escort vehicles.

What equipment can you transport?

Mining equipment, construction machinery, transformers, generators, industrial tanks, structural steel, container homes, factory machinery, agricultural equipment, and any oversized or overweight cargo across South Africa and SADC.

Do you offer cross-border abnormal transport?

Yes. We provide cross-border abnormal transport to Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia, Namibia and other SADC countries, handling permits, customs and escort coordination.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking at least 2-3 weeks in advance for abnormal loads to allow for permits and route planning. Urgent requests can be accommodated — contact us to discuss.
